A Shiʿi anti-Duginist reading of the hadith of the legions of Hiero-Intelligence and acosmic ignorance
From
al-Kulaynī’s al-Kāfī (H14, Book 1: kitāb al-ʿaql wa’l-jahl).
Note:
I have deliberately translated al-ʿaql (i.e. the
Hiero-Intelligence/Nexal Consciousness) as Logos, and al-jahl (acosmic
ignorance) as chaos. Although technically not precise, the thrust however of
the intention is accurate. In other words, any form or articulation of the
“metaphysics of chaos” is per the teachings of the Imāms of the House (upon
Them be infinite blessings and peace) condemned as a manifestation of the
legions of al-jahl (acosmic ignorance), i.e. chaos.

…Abu
ʿAbd Allāh (Imām Jaʿfar al-Ṣādiq), upon Him be peace, said: “Verily from His
Light God – majestic and mighty be He -- created the Logos (al-ʿaql) and it was
the first creation of the spiritual world on the right side of the divine
Throne. He then told it to move backwards and the Logos moved backwards. He
then told it to come forward, and the Logos (al-ʿaql) came forward.” God -- blessed and elevated be He -- said, “I
have created you a great creation and honoured you above all others of My
creation.’” The Imām, upon Him be peace, continued, “God then created the chaos
(al-jahl) from a dark, putrid [primordial] ocean [of the abyss] and told
it, “Move backwards,” so it moved backwards. He then called it to come forward
but it did not come forward. He then said to it, “you are arrogant” and so pronounced
it condemned [or 'cursed']…
